Abstract:Multi-case-study research conducted in some rural villages of Argentina and Italy is intended to propose a model of analysis and monitoring of the “collaborative processes” which stands behind the tourist enhancement of local assets. “…CBCs could manage and enhance common goods, both in agriculture and in tourism. Furthermore, they could promote tourism based on cultural heritage [59,60], creating strategic partnerships both inside and outside the community [20]. Tourism plays a central role in revitalising inner areas, especially in those areas capable of offering high-level natural, cultural, and gastronomic resources.…”
Italian municipalities distant from main service supply hubs are defined by the Development Ministry as “inner areas”. A new business model, called community-based cooperatives, has recently developed in these areas. The name itself highlights the strong link between these firms and the local population. Their essential features are the pursuit of general interest and the creation of partnerships. This research explores the potential contribution of these enterprises to the growth of Italian inner areas. The data come from a direct survey, and the methodology includes text analysis techniques and correspondence analysis to create useful concept maps that define the paths that community-based cooperatives can take to regenerate their territories. The results highlight the critical issues of inner areas and the needs of their communities, together with the potential fields of business for the establishment of a community-based cooperative. In conclusion, these new firms may lead to real and enduring benefits to local communities. They could also contribute to demographic decline inversion by introducing new practices that reduce inequalities, enhance social, natural, and artificial capital, and boost the sustainable development process.

“…The development of rural tourism keeps young generations from leaving the villages (Boys et al., 2017). Thus, the development of rural communities is affected by the retention of the young generation, and the emergence of a new generation of farmers who will also provide new tourism offer (Chiodo et al., 2019).…”

“…The goal of tourist development in rural areas is employment of rural population through utilization of the existing resources in the form of touristic offer (Lane and Kastenholz, 2015). Rural tourism development has led to creation of tourist enclaves favoring local identities and culture rather than favoring rural development in the area (Chiodo et al., 2019). Rural areas are utilizing the existing resources and investing in strengthening of tourist infrastructure in order to attract tourists.…”
In order for a tourist to visit a location, it has to be attractive. Destination attractiveness can be examined in several ways. One of them is offered by this study, which has examined destination attractiveness based on resources available in certain rural settlements. Based on a case study carried out in the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Brčko District), a model will be developed to test for rural tourism destination attractiveness. Examination of tourist destination attractiveness in the area of the Brčko District was conducted with a decision model based on the Decision EXpert method and expert decision-making. For that purpose, six rural settlements in the area of the Brčko District were examined with respect to destination attractiveness. Results obtained using this model showed that rural settlement Bijela has a “very good” attractiveness, rural settlements Brezik, Brezovo Polje, and Gornji Zovik have “good” attractiveness, while rural settlements Ražljevo and Maoča have “middle” attractiveness. The results obtained by applying this model have shown the need for improvement of touristic offer in order to make it more attractive. In order to improve attractiveness of a tourist destination, we need to strengthen human potential in this area and improve tourist infrastructure and make more effort to preserve the environment. The application of the used model has given good results in examination of tourist destination attractiveness and it should be applied for other branches of tourism in the future studies.
