Erythrina variegata (E. variegata) bioactive chemical has been the potential to be utilized as a good, eco-friendly approach for the control of mosquito population. In the present investigation, methanol extract using insecticidal compounds isolated against mosquito larvae kill assay was carried out. Secondary metabolism was characterized by thin layer chromatography, column chromatography, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, gas chromatography-mass spectral, and identification of compound. Mosquito immature third instar larval, Anopheles stephensi, and Culex quinquefasciatus have been exposed to different concentrations of 50-250 µg/ml. Totally, larvae were death rate 98.2% (significant value 0.001b) from methanol extract and it is significant toxicity against larvae of An. stephensi and Cx. quinquefasciatus with LC50/LC99 values were 157.69/339.55 µg/ml and 137.67/297.33 µg/ml, respectively. FT-IR analysis in the functional groups such as alcohol, amines, amides, alkenes, 1⁎ amines, aromatic amines, aliphatic amines, 1⁎,2⁎ amines, and alkyl halides searched the identity of secondary metabolites, which may act as 12-Octadecenoic acid, methyl ester compound and clearly indicates being phytochemical. Chemical constituents of twenty-five compounds were identified in the methanol extract. The major components were 12-Octadecenoic acid and methyl ester (37.31%). Compound molecules consist of carbon 19 atoms (gray), hydrogen 36 atoms (greenish blue), and oxygen 2 atoms (red), indicated by the different colors. The results were obtained suggesting that, in addition to their pharmaceutical and medicine sources, 12-Octadecenoic acid, methyl ester compound can also serve as a natural mosquito control.

The treatment and prevention of coccidiosis in goats is costly to backyard farmers. It is for this reason that the use of alternative medicinal plants to treat coccidiosis are explored. Thus, this study aimed to determine the anticoccidial activity of the ethanol extract of C. aromaticus leaves. A total of 20 naturally coccidia-infected goats at the University of Southern Mindanao Goat Project served as experimental animals for the study. In relation to this, three concentrations of Coleus aromaticus extract were tested for anticoccidial activity: 600, 800, and 1000 mg extract/ kg bodyweight. The efficacies of these concentrations were determined and evaluated by comparing with a commercial coccidiostat, toltrazuril. It was found that 21 days post-treatment, the efficacies of the three extract concentrations were significant but was lower than toltrazuril. A significant difference (p = 0.0394) existed in the efficacies of the extracts among the treatments on day 21. The efficacy rate of administering 600 mg/kg extract (92.29%) was comparable to that of toltrazuril (96.65%) at 21 days post-treatment. This shows that the extract has the potential to be as effective as toltrazuril in reducing the oocyst per gram counts of naturally-infected goats.

Coleus amboinicus (Lour.) merupakan tanaman obat tradisional yang banyak digunakan oleh masyarakat dan telah diteliti secara ekstensif serta dilaporkan di beberapa bidang ilmu pengetahuan. Penulisan review artikel ini didasarkan pada studi literatur tahun 1993 hingga tahun 2021, yang diperoleh dari database google scholar, Scopus, Science Direct, PubMed, dan lainnya. Tanaman ini merupakan tanaman semak aromatis, berbunga, namun jarang berbiji dan dapat diperbanyak secara vegetatif. Profil senyawa fitokimianya dapat digolongkan menjadi beberapa kelas yang berbeda seperti terpenoid, fenolik, flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, steroid dan tanin. Tanaman C. amboinicus (Lour.) kaya akan komponen fenolik seperti asam rosmarinat dan asam kafeat, dengan mayoritas komponen volatil utamanya yaitu karvakrol. Profil fitokimia C. amboinicus (Lour.) dapat bervariasi tergantung pada berbagai faktor, seperti lingkungan, keanekaragaman genetik, bagian tanaman yang digunakan, maupun metode dan proses ekstraksi. Potensi farmakologinya seperti antibakteri, antifungi, antioksidan, antikanker, antiinflamasi, antidiabetes, antihiperlipidemia, antimalaria serta laktagoga telah banyak dilaporkan. Selain itu, tanaman ini juga dimanfaatkan dalam kuliner serta sintesis biogenik senyawa nanopartikel. Eksplorasi dari tanaman C. amboinicus (Lour.) juga merambah kepada mikroorganisme endofitnya, dan dikaitkan dengan kemampuannya untuk menghasilkan senyawa bioaktif yang potensial sebagai antibakteri, agen biokontrol serta produksi enzim selulase. Review artikel ini memberikan informasi terkait botani, fitokimia, farmakologi, sintesis biogenik, pemanfaatan lainnya serta eksplorasi mikroorganisme endofitnya. Artikel ini diharapkan dapat menjadi sumber informasi untuk pengembangan potensi C. amboinicus (Lour.) yang semakin meluas.
