Coins and their role in documenting the stages of unification of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the reign of King Abdulaziz b. Saud (1319- 1373 AH/ 1902- 1953 AD)

Abstract

King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman bin Faisal bin Turki bin Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Saud (1319-1373 AH / 1902-1953 AD) is the master and leader of the unification procession through which he created the greatest national union in the Arab world during the modern era. He strove to construct the modern Saudi state in the religious, political, administrative, military, economic, social, educational and cultural aspects. This great civilizational construction pursues to this day, rising and extending in its renewable bestowal. In this research paper on the coins during the reign of King Abdulaziz and their role in documenting the stages of unification of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, God willing, light will be shed on one of the astonishing sides in the history of King Abdulaziz through the coins, which are regarded as unquestionable historical documents of great value. The coins used in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the reign of King Abdulaziz can be divided into two sections: The first section includes ‫جملة‬ ‫مركز‬ ‫املشكوكات‬ ‫اإلسالمية‬-‫مصر‬ ‫الثاني،‬ ‫العدد‬ ، 91 02 ‫م‬ 08 JINCE, Issue No. 2 (2019) foreign coins; these are Ottoman coins, Egyptian coins, European coins, Indian coins, English coins, and American coins. The second section consists of the coins that King Abdulaziz struck under his name and titles, including the coins that represented the historical transformation in the economic life of the new state, converting from the dependence on foreign coins to a new independent monetary system that reflects the outstanding political and economic power achieved by the new state.
