Coherent Resonant Soft X-ray Scattering Study of Magnetic Textures in FeGe

Abstract: Coherent resonant soft X-ray scattering was utilized to examine the magnetic textures in a thin plate of the cubic B20 compound FeGe. Small-angle scattering patterns were measured with controlled temperatures and magnetic fields exhibiting magnetic scattering from a helical texture and skyrmion lattice. By measuring the scattering pattern in a saturation magnetic field, magnetic and charge scattering were distinguished and an iterative phase retrieval algorithm was applied to reconstruct the magnetic texture i… Show more

“…The dynamical properties of the skyrmion lattice were also revealed [11,12]. Combining with coherence of synchrotron radiation, moreover, the X-ray imaging techniques, such as coherent diffraction and holography, were developed to measure the spin textures [13,14]. The ultrafast dynamics of skyrmions was also clarified by the X-ray imaging technique [15,16].…”

“…This highlights the importance of comparing the results using different probes for obtaining the full picture of magnetic phenomena. Thus, using an actual synchrotron technique, the lensless coherent small-angle scattering with circularly polarized soft X-rays offers the possibility to obtain a real space picture of the magnetic texture of FeGe as reported in [5]. Here, real space images of the helical and skyrmionic texture were reproduced adding the missing phase information of the scattering techniques to the overall picture.Other interesting magnetic systems are the triangular frustrated magnets.…”
