Coherent Heteronuclear Spin Dynamics in an Ultracold Spinor Mixture

Abstract: We report the observation of coherent heteronuclear spin dynamics driven by inter-species spinspin interaction in an ultracold spinor mixture, which manifests as periodical and well correlated spin oscillations between two atomic species. In particular, we investigate the magnetic field dependence of the oscillations and find a resonance behavior which depends on both the linear and quadratic Zeeman effects and the spin-dependent interaction. We also demonstrate a unique knob for controlling the spin dynamics … Show more

“…The fine tunability and the wonderful controllability in BEC experiments provide an excellent testbed for many theoretical predictions [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. In fact, the DIs exist not only in scalar (single-component) BECs, such as solitons [19] and vortices [20], but also in spinor BECs, including the two-component and threecomponent spinor BECs, where vector solitons [21], Skyrmion vortices [22,23], and spin domains/textures are explored [24][25][26][27][28][29][30].…”

“…III. SPINOR MIXTURE OF 87 Rb AND 23 Na We next extend the above discussion for two atoms to a mixture of bosonic spinor 23 Na(η = a) and 87 Rb (η = b) atoms in the ground F = 1 states [40]. This represents a special case as their level spacing mismatch is smaller because the nuclear and electronic spins for both atoms are the same.…”
