“…In our previously published study, we analyzed the prevalence and predisposing factors of brain damage and hemorrhages in survivors of acute methanol poisoning [15, 37, 38]. This group included 34 patients treated with RRT from the present study.…”

“…The remaining 30 surviving patients refused to participate in the study. Forty‐six patients were examined using the same protocol 2 years later in a follow‐up assessment in 2015 (Bezdicek et al., ). In the present study, a total of 43 patients with methanol poisoning were examined using the same protocol as above, 42 of which were part of the 2013 sample (total attrition 16%).…”

“…The present study is a part of the multidisciplinary project commenced in 2013 in reaction to mass methanol poisoning in the Czech Republic (Zakharov et al., ). The previous studies showed that patients performed worse than matched healthy controls on tests of several executive functions (conceptualization, mental flexibility, programming, and sensitivity to interference), explicit verbal memory (learning, immediate recall, and delayed recognition), and motor speed (Bezdicek et al, , ). In survivors of methanol poisoning, there is an association between the presence of bilateral symmetrical lesions in putamen and explicit verbal recognition memory, as well as between the presence of lesions in globus pallidus and sustained visual attention (Bezdicek et al., ).…”

“…Major consequences of non-fatal methanol poisoning include impaired vision, neurological impairments, or brain damage, mostly irreversible (Paasma, Hovda, & Jacobsen, 2009). A recent study has also shown cognitive impairments among methanol poisoning survivors (Bezdicek et al, 2017).…”
