Cognitive Radio RF: Overview and Challenges

Abstract: Cognitive radio system (CRS) is a radio system which is aware of its operational and geographical environment, established policies, and its internal state. It is able to dynamically and autonomously adapt its operational parameters and protocols and to learn from its previous experience. Based on software-defined radio (SDR), CRS provides additional flexibility and offers improved efficiency to overall spectrum use. CRS is a disruptive technology targeting very high spectral efficiency. This paper presents an… Show more

“…Cognitive radio is a highly multidisciplinary area currently attracting numerous research efforts, which provides a large number of challenges regarding security and accurate sensing [62]. As previously discussed, this survey is focused particularly on security in the context of primary user detection, particularly in what concerns two major types of attacks: primary user emulation and spectrum sensing data falsification.…”

“…This TC is currently active in the standardization of CR systems and also in the addressing of security threats [62]. In the same context as IEEE 802.22, the European Computer Manufacturers Association (ECMA)-392 workgroup aims at designing mechanisms to enable wireless devices to exploit the white spaces in the television frequency bands.…”
