Coal gasification in a jet‐spouted bed

Abstract: Coal gasification has been studied for the production of synthesis gas by use of a laboratory‐scale, two‐stage, jet‐spouted bed reactor. Tests were conducted in the dry ash mode with oxygen‐steam mixtures. The effects of operating conditions on the gasification performance were investigated at atmospheric pressure and temperatures up to 1150°C. Carbon conversions of 75% to 97% and cold gas thermal efficiencies of 62 to 78% were obtained for Taiheiyo coal. Both the carbon conversion and thermal efficiency were … Show more

“…Pyrolysis of biomass [42][43][44][45][46][47], waste plastic [48,49], scrap tires [50,51] and sludge [52][53][54][55] have been tested and validated at lab and pilot scale. Also, the combustion of wood charcoal [56], biomass [57][58][59], sludge from the paper industry [60] or eventually toxic wastes [61] has been object of several studies as well as the gasification of coal [62,63], biomass [64][65][66][67], sewage sludge [68], flame retardants textile products [69] and mixtures of biomass with plastics [46] or coal [70].…”

“…Nowadays spouted beds are widely used in various physical operations such as drying, coating and granulation. They are used as chemical reactors in many applications such as coal gasification, catalytic partial oxidation, catalytic oxidative coupling reactors, catalytic polymerization and pyrolysis (Tsuji and Uemaki 1994, Wei et al 2003, Mleczko and Marschall 1997, Olazar 1994, Aguado et al 2002. Comprehensive experimental study has been done by He et al and Olazar et al for hydrodynamics of conventional spouted beds (He et al 1994a, He et al 1994b, Olazar et al 2001.…”

“…The pyrolysis of biomass [11,12] or waste plastic [13] have been tested and validated at the lab and pilot scale as well as the combustion of wood charcoal [14] or biomass. [15,16] SBRs have also been applied to the gasification of coal, [17] biomass, [18,19] and mixtures of biomass with plastics. [20] A SBR is obtained by replacing the perforated base of traditional fluidization reactors with one with a single central gas inlet.…”
