“…The increase in TN in vermicomposts is also due to inclusion of mucus, body uid of earthworms, their excretory products and dead earthworm tissues (Bhat et al, 2015). The results of this study are similar to Karwal and Kaushik (2020) who reported maximum increase in TN content in 3:1 combination (Buffalo Dung + Pressmud: Fly ash) after vermicomposting for 90 days.…”

“…Sugarcane press mud increases soil pH and nutrient availability due to the presence of calcium oxide (CaO) and base cations which reduces the Cd toxicity in plants [80]. Because of the alkaline nature of SPM, OH-ions are released into the soil solution, which increases the soil pH and creates binding sites for Cd adsorption and complexation, consequently reduced Cd uptake by plants [81][82][83][84] Moreover, the presence of organic matter present in SPM reduces the Cd uptake and availability by forming organic complexes with Cd [84]; therefore, PMS decreased the Cd accumulation in plant roots and above ground parts (Table 3). The precipitation is considered to be a main mechanism of Cd immobilization as metal-phosphate, owing to the presence of phosphate in OA [32].…”

“…Thenceforth, the utilization of earthworms in waste management practices has been widespread and well documented in published scientific literature on wastes from several and diverse industries. For instance, the latest studies reported have been rice straw [19] or fly ash [20], to point a couple of examples out.…”
