Summary In recent years, the laser half‐cutting technology for silicon solar cells has gotten much attention from researchers for increasing module power and would become particularly important in the photovoltaic modules domain. Herein, this paper would introduce a kind of new laser cutting process, a thermal laser separation (TLS) cutting technology. In the laser cutting processes, the influence on mechanical and electrical characteristics of bifacial p‐type passivated emitter and rear (PERC) solar cell and module were investigated in considerable detail. We have made a series of research and analyses including the cutting principle, opening length, fracture surface, and hot influence zone. The results reveal that the TLS cutting process could reduce damage more than the regular laser scribing and cleaving (LSC) cutting process. The TLS cutting process would achieve the higher power of a PERC half‐cutting bifacial module and the stronger bending strength of half solar cells than the LSC cutting process.

We propose a facile and combined methodology to develop magnetron sputtered various metals and alloy (e.g. tungsten, tin and nichrome), and metal oxide (indium tin oxide) thin film-based micro-patterns deposited on flexible and rigid substrates utilizing reusable patterned mask. CO 2 laser-cut glass-based mask is fabricated and assembled with the substrates for pattern printing by sputtered thin film deposition technique. Fabrication of mask is adopted with the rapid CO 2 laser-cut process aided with computer-aided design software. The laser-cut glass-based mask can easily fix on any type of substrates and any resistive materials deposition can be carried out. Currently, the developed thin film micropatterns show good uniformity, dense morphology and without sign of any discontinuity. Finally, a successful functional characterization of a typical nichrome line-heater also confirms the feasibility and proof of concept of the present proposed approach that is much facile, less time-consuming and economical.

In large areas of laser drilling, the residual vibration occurs when the sample stage moves in PTP (Point to Point) movement. It affects the surface quality and processing efficiency of the holes. The common solution for this problem is to set the laser irradiation delay time by the controller to wait for the residual vibration attenuation, but the whole drilling circle will increase. In this paper, a new method is introduced to reduce the laser drilling circle. By setting the allowable threshold of the residual vibration for the subsequent process, the sum of the time in deceleration segment of the trapezoidal moving profile, and the time when the residual vibration attenuates below the amplitude threshold (ST) can be minimized as the optimization goal. The results show that for a given operating speed, there is always an optimum acceleration value for the deceleration segment of the trapezoidal moving profile, which minimizes the ST value. Further, the delay time for laser irradiation can also be estimated according to the optimal acceleration during laser drilling.
