Cluster-daughter overlap as a new probe of alpha-cluster formation in medium-mass and heavy even–even nuclei

Abstract: We study the possibility to use the cluster-daughter overlap as a new probe of alpha-cluster formation in medium-mass and heavy even-even nuclei. We introduce a dimensionless parameter O, which is the ratio between the root-mean-square (rms) intercluster separation and the sum of rms point radii of the daughter nucleus and the alpha particle, to measure the degree of the cluster-daughter overlap quantitatively. By using this parameter, a large (small) cluster-daughter overlap between the alpha cluster and daug… Show more

“…Refs. [81,82] propose an approximately linear relation between the α-formation probability and the RMS relative distance R χ rel along the band. Therefore, the α-formation probabilities along the ground-state band of 212 Po could be estimated by the linear relation P LA α = −1.16066 + 0.20035R χ rel .…”

“…Such a choice is motivated by a previous microscopic result on the α-formation probability in the ground state of 212 Po [83]. In this work, we give an improved treatment on the α-formation probabilities by taking into consideration the evolution of α-cluster formation along the ground-state band [81,82] under the guidance of the latest microscopic result from Ref. [23].…”
