Clozapine recognition via molecularly imprinted polymers; bulk polymerization versus precipitation method

Abstract: Two clozapine (CLZ) imprinted polymers were prepared by bulk and precipitation methods. Methacrylic acid and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EDMA) were used as functional and crosslinker monomers, respectively. The mean diameter and particle size distribution of the imprinted (P-MIP) and nonimprinted (P-NIP) particles obtained in precipitation method were examined. A conventional batch-adsorption test was applied for characterization of CLZ-polymer interaction. Dissociation constant (K D ) and maximum binding … Show more

“…The preparation of specific binding sites via the molecular imprinting technique has become the main objective of many studies and major interest of some researchers in recent years . Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are synthesised by radical polymerisation of monomers in the presence of a suitable template molecule.…”

“…Study of the Coordination Behavior Between NFA, Zn (II) and MAA by UV Spectrophotometry The specific recognition ability of CMIP to template molecule depends on the type of inter-molecular force, number of binding sites and combining stability of functional monomers with template functional groups [18] . So, MAA was chosen as the functional monomer to combine with NFA in this research.…”

“…Therefore, non-covalent imprinting has currently turned into the most famous and useful synthesis for MIPs preparation. Several polymerization processes such as homogeneous (bulk polymerization 11 ) and heterogeneous systems such as suspension 12 , miniemulsion 13 , seeded emulsion 14 , emulsion 15 and precipitation 5,9,10,16,17 polymerizations are used to prepare MIPs. Bulk polymerization is firstly used to prepare MIPs.…”
