Clonal stability of tree dryness in Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg.

Abstract: Clonal stability of tree dryness was evaluated in eleven clones of Hevea brasiliensis at the Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria. The experimental design was the randomized complete block with three replicates and ten trees per replicate. The clones were evaluated in three locations. Four stability parameters were applied. The stability parameters were: environmental variance, regression index, variance due to regression, and Shukla's stability variance. Clone C 202 was outstanding for clonal stability and co… Show more

“…They show that IRCA 41 clone is very little sensitive to TPD and the most sensitive clones are PB 260 and PB 235. The difference of clones' TPD sensitivity was indicated by De Fay (1981), Chrestin (1985), Omokhafe (2001) and Omokhafe (2004) on limited number of clones who are GT 1, PR 107, PB 235 and RRIM 600. The relatively raised number of clones used in the present study (13 clones) demonstrates the importance of the genetic factor on the clones' sensitivity to TPD.…”

“…Indeed, the results showed that clones IRCA 331 and GT1 were among the clones having obtained the lowest average rates of diseased tapping cut length. Several authors [12,35,36,37] have reported that tapping panel dryness rate increases with the frequency of stimulation. This suggests that these clones could better bear the applied stimulation regime compared to clones PB 310, IRCA 707, IRCA 202, and PB 280 that were sensitive to one or the other of the major factors of stand reduction.…”

“…Rubber (Hevea brasiliensis Muell, Arg. ), Belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family, which is almost exclusively grown for its latex which is the main source of natural rubber [1][2][3][4][5]. Natural rubber is an important raw material in industry.…”
