Objectives: Cysts seen in the jaws may be odontogenic or non-odontogenic, depending on the tissue of origin. Although there are different methods to diagnose these lesions, histopathological examination of tissue biopsy of the lesion is accepted as the 'gold standard' in cases where the diagnosis is insufficient. Materials and Methods: Pathology results of 436 patients who applied to Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Faculty of Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Clinic between 2016-2021 for any reason and underwent biopsy were retrospectively scanned using digital archives. While classifying the cyst, the criteria published by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017 were taken into account. Obtained results were recorded for statistical analysis. SPSS 22.0 Software Package Program (SPSS 22.0 Software Package Program, Inc. Chicago, IL, USA) was used as statistical software in the study. Results: Of the 436 patients included in the study, 250 (57.3%) were male and 186 (42.7%) were female. The ages of the patients ranged between 7 and 82 years, and the mean age of the patients was 35.5±15.8. As a result of the findings, it was determined that the most common cysts were radicular cysts (53.7%). Radicular cysts were most commonly located in the posterior mandible and anterior maxilla anatomically. Conclusions: In addition to clinical and radiological examination, histopathological examination of biopsy samples taken from tissues is of great importance in the correct diagnosis and treatment planning of jaw cysts.

Background: Odontogenic keratocyst is relatively common developmental odontogenic lesion occurring with a frequency of approximately 10-14% of all jaw cyst. Aim: To find the clinic-radiologic pattern of odontogenic keratocyst cases. Study design: Descriptive cross sectional. Methodology: Present study was conducted at Pathology and diagnostic Medicine, Khyber Medical University Peshawar in which 83 patients were enrolled. An OPG x-ray was done for all the patients to see the nature of the lesion. Surgical specimens were stored in formalin solution. After gross examination, they were evaluated histopathologically for diagnosis of Odontogenic keratocyst according to WHO criteria2. Data was collected through performa by non-probability convenient sampling following ethical approval. Data was evaluated by using SPSS version 23. Quantitative data was presented as mean ± SD. Categorical data was presented by frequency and percentage. Chi square was applied with p-value <0.05 as significant. Results: Almost 55.4% were male patients. Almost 45.8% patients were in the 4th decade of their life. The mandible was the most common site of involvement accounting for 68.7%. An impacted tooth was associated in 26.5% of cases. Conclusion: It was concluded that OKC involved mandible while occurring in 4th decade of life among males commonly. There was an association with an impacted tooth, therefore to rule out the presence of odontogenic keratocyst, all impacted teeth should be assessed. Prevalence of dentigerous cysts in a Portuguese university clinic population with bone pathology

To assess the prevalence and characterize the dentigerous cyst in a Portuguese population with bone pathology and to study the concordance rate between clinical and histological diagnoses of all cases.Methods: Clinical records of patients attending Oral Surgery and Oral Pathology consultations in a Portuguese university clinic between 2000 and 2023 were consulted. Bone pathology cases were selected along with information about sex, age, and anatomic location. The concordance rate between clinical and histological diagnoses was also calculated, dividing the cases into totally concordant, partially concordant, and discordant. Statistical analysis was conducted using chi-square tests. Results:The dentigerous cyst prevalence within bone pathology cases was 10.50%. It was more prevalent in males (68%), with no statistical significance (p>0.05). The average age of patients was 36.9 ± 13.5 years old. About half of the cases (56%) were associated with unerupted teeth, and third molars were the most affected teeth (33.33%). Most cases (57%) were in the mandible, with no statistical significance, more prevalent in the fourth quadrant (38.89%). The clinical diagnosis of 44.80% of the cases analyzed agreed with the histological diagnosis, 17.65% agreed partially, and 37.55% disagreed. Conclusions:The prevalence of dentigerous cysts in the referred population was 10.50%. They were more prevalent in males and mostly located in the mandible, with a higher incidence between 19 and 50 years of age.
