Clinicopathologic study of large cell anaplastic lymphoma (ki-1-positive large cell lymphoma) among the japanese

Abstract: The clinical, prognostic, phenotypic, and genotypic findings of 30 patients with large cell anaplastic lymphoma (Ki-1-positive large cell lymphoma) were analyzed. There were 13 male and 17 female patients (male-female ratio, 0.8) whose ages ranged from 3 to 81 years of age (mean, 28 years of age; 67% of the patients younger than 30 years of age). The 5-year survival rate was 52%; this was better than that of other types of high-grade peripheral T-cell lymphoma. Histologic examination showed distinctive morphol… Show more

“…Group A showed a poor prognosis compared with groups B and C. 13 The anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALC) usualy show favourable clinical behaviour, between Hodgkin's disease and low-grade T-cell lymphoma. 24 However, we have also reported that anaplastic large cell lymphoma with HTLV-I integration is associated with a poor prognosis compared with ALC without HTLV-I antibody. 9 In the present study, to clarify the clinicopathological features of HTLV-I-associated lymphadenopathy, group A was further classified into three morphological subgroups: pleomorphic (medium and large cell) type, pleomorphic small cell type, and anaplastic large cell type (ALC).…”

“…With the exception of ALCL, cytotoxic lymphomas are usually extranodal and show an aggressive clinical course [12,22,30]. On the other hand, ALCL show a favourable clinical behaviour, somewhere between those of Hodgkin disease and low-grade T-cell lymphoma [33]. As an example of extranodal T-cell lymphomas, intestinal Tcell lymphoma (ITCL) is an uncommon entity.…”

“…Despite the anaplastic morphology, Ki-1 ALCL may have a better prognosis than other high-grade lymphomas [16][17][18][19] . In the cases we describe three of seven patients in whom adequate clinical details were available had an advanced stage (III or IV) at presentation.…”
