Clinical safety assessment of the Halcyon system

Abstract: Purpose The Halcyon consists of precommissioned linear accelerator and treatment planning algorithms that were designed to simplify the acceptance, commissioning, and clinical workflow for image‐guided intensity‐modulated radiotherapy. The purpose of this work was to perform a comprehensive safety assessment for the clinical use of the Halcyon. Methods Systems‐Theoretic Process Analysis was used as the safety assessment tool. As part of the analysis, a number of control loops and control actions are created to… Show more

“…Also, markers necessary to distinguish from a neuroendocrine tumour are negative IHC for synaptophysin, chromogranin A, TTF-1, c-Kit, S-100 protein and CD34 [ 28 ]. Positive IHC for p53 has also been reported in about 30% of pancreatic acinar carcinomas [ 29 ]. Some of the markers mentioned before were obtained in this case report, stating that not all markers mentioned before are available in our pathology department, but its classification and differentiation from a neuroendocrine tumour was possible.…”

“…Staffing costs could thus not have been reduced further. Perhaps using another LINAC that optimises treatment speed through gantry mobility and MLC motion, such as the Varian® Halcyon [ 28 , 29 ], could significantly lower teletherapy costs.…”
