Clinical performance of resin‐bonded composite strip crowns in primary incisors: a retrospective study

Abstract: The high success rate of resin-bonded composite strip crowns with a 2-year follow-up seen in this study suggests that this treatment modality is an aesthetic and satisfactory means of restoring carious primary incisors in young children. The retention rate is lower in teeth with decay in three or more surfaces, particularly in children with a high caries risk.

“…To meet the rising aesthetic needs, resin-bonded composite strip crowns are the preferred choice of many clinicians, mainly because of the superior aesthetics and the ease of repair in the event that the crown chips or fractures [12]. “…The esthetic restoration of severely mutilated deciduous teeth has been a challenge to the pediatric dentist, not only because of the available materials and techniques, but also because the children who require these restorations are usually among the youngest and least manageable group of patients. Clinicians, who treat young children, are always faced with a challenge to find the most effective material and technique to successfully restore the deciduous anterior teeth 12) . Full-coverage crowns for deciduous teeth are recommended for teeth with multiple carious surfaces, incisal edge involvement, extensive cervical decalcification, pulp therapy, hypoplasia, and poor moisture or hemorrhage control 13) .…”

“…4 These restorations exhibit good esthetics and high success rate, 4 but difficult moisture control, decreased surface area, and technique sensitivity frequently compromise the retention and success of these restorations. 5 Other full-coronal restorations include prefabricated zirconia, preveneered stainless steel, and polycarbonate crowns.…”
