“…Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) is the seventh common malignancy in the United States, mostly regarded as a malignancy with good prognoses and 5-year survival of approximately 70%. The most common types of NHL are diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL), follicular lymphoma (FL), and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) ( 1 ). The typical therapeutic methods for lymphoma include radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and so on.…”

“…[7] In contrast to our current case, the most common site of oral lymphoma involvement was the gingiva, and the most frequent symptoms were pain, swelling, ulceration, paresthesia, and palpable lymph nodes. [8] The International Prognostic Index (IPI) is a scoring system for predicting overall survival which evaluates the patient by age, stage, lymph node involvement, serum lactate dehydrogenase level, and performance status. According to this scoring system, our patient scored 1 point which was identified as a low-intermediate risk.…”

“…In this retrospective study, soft tissues were more commonly involved than hard tissues by NHL, with greater involvement of buccal mucosa, followed by rare localizations, such as the tongue, gingiva and cheek. Tseng et al have recently reviewed 607 cases of oral lymphomas: concerning location, they found that the most affected site was the gingiva, followed by the palate, maxilla, mandible, tongue, buccal mucosa, vestibule, lip and floor of the mouth [ 33 ]. The rare incidence and the common signs and symptoms in the oral cavity determine important factors for the misdiagnosis of NHL [ 26 , 34 , 35 ].…”

“…The etiology is still unknown, but the recent increase in incidence may be related to immunodeficiency conditions. Undoubtedly, immunodeficiency-HIV-related patients have an increased incidence of oral NHL for their systemic complications [ 26 , 33 ]. However, in the southern Italian regions and rural areas, the low risk of HIV infection reduces the incidence of immunodeficiency-related NHL, as reported in this study.…”
