“…FXIII activity at our hospital is routinely measured in patients who experience bleeding despite a normal conventional coagulation test. Patients with an FXIII level <70% (considered to indicate FXIII deficiency 8,10 ) were eligible for inclusion in the study. Patients with a known congenital bleeding disorder were excluded.…”

“…3 Bleeding also occurs in the setting of acquired FXIII deficiency, which is caused by autoimmune conditions or FXIII hyperconsumption or hyposynthesis. 4,5 FXIII deficiency has been described after neurosurgery, heart surgery, abdominal oncology surgery, and orthopedic surgery [6][7][8][9][10] , but it has not consistently been linked to an increased risk of postoperative bleeding. 11,12 An FXIII level <70% is considered to indicate deficiency.…”

“…Therefore, clinical manifestations are unreliable indicators of pneumothorax size (44). Additionally, plasma factor XIII has been reported to be a fistula-healing factor and intraoperative bleeding (29,30,45,46). In lung disease, there are some reports related to therapeutic effect of pneumothorax and prolonged air leak after pulmonary lobectomy (47,48).…”

“…An association between lower FXIII levels and peri-operative blood loss has been reported [16,48,49]. FXIII deficiency is associated with post-operative haemorrhagic events and requirement for post-operative transfusion [21,35,50].…”
