“…Porges (1956) described cases of myeloma in which there was a deficiency of normal gamma-globulin as distinct from the abnormal protein, and he thought that the condition could be regarded as a secondary hypogammaglobulinaemia. Attempts to demonstrate any direct relationship between dysglobulinaemia and impaired antibody response have produced equivocal evidence, but the majority of the workers have claimed to show some correlation (Marks, 1953;Zinneman and Hall, 1954;Dancaster et al, 1959). This could not be confirmed by Lawson et al (1955), and it may be that the confusion is in part due to the small numbers of cases of myeloma usually available.…”
