Climate Change Factors' Impact on the Egyptian Agricultural Sector

Abstract: Climate change is the greatest threat to agriculture and food security, particularly in developing countries. Climate change occurs as CO2 levels in the atmosphere rise, causing changes in wind patterns and rainfall and rising temperatures. This study assumes that climate change will have a long-run impact on Egypt's agricultural sector. So, an autoregressive distributed lag model (ARDL) was applied to examine the effects of climate change factors and other economic factors on Egyptian agricultural GDP in the … Show more

“…Egypt's agricultural sector was also negatively impacted by climate change between 1990 and 2020. ARDL findings also indicated a decline in the agricultural GDP as a result of rising temperatures [54]. There was no evidence of a negative impact of climate change on agriculture in a study which involved eight South Asian countries between 1960 and 2016 using the ARDL analysis approach [55].…”

“…Understanding how climate change/variability might impact both natural ecosystems (such as available water resources) and human society is one of the most sophisticated issues in integrated water resources management [11,12]. Hence, for decades, global and regional climate changes/variability have been widely investigated using different methods and long-term observational data [13][14][15][16]. For example, Li et al [11] used modified Mann-Kendall tests, flow duration curves, and correlation statistics to identify the long-term trend of the hydroclimatological variables.…”
