Abstract

There are twenty-three countries using the Arabic language, whilst the native speakers of Arabic are around 300 million people. Arabic is considered the third major language with regards to the countries that use it as its official language. Arabic is in the third place after English and French. This research reviews the historical development of the Arabic ‫اإلنسانية‬ ‫والعلوم‬ ‫اآلداب‬ ‫كلية‬ ‫جملة‬ ‫الثالث‬ ‫العدد‬ ‫واألربعون‬ 66 language from its standard classic form till the modern period and sheds the light on the variance between the classical Arabic and modern standard Arabic. It manifests the linguistic typology and defining characteristics of each variety in terms of their syntactic, phonological morphological, and lexical features.
