Clarification of the relationship between the members of the family Thermomonosporaceae on the basis of 16S rDNA, 16S-23S rRNA internal transcribed spacer and 23S rDNA sequences and chemotaxonomic analyses.

Abstract: To resolve relationships between members of the family Thermomonosporaceae, phylogenetic analyses using three sets of nucleotide sequences from 16S rDNA, 23S rDNA and the 16S-23S internal transcribed spacer (ITS) were carried out. Nearly all species of the family were included in this study. On the basis of congruous phylogenetic results and chemotaxonomic data, the following proposals are made. First, Actinomadura libanotica, Actinomadura aurantiaca, Actinomadura glomerata and Actinomadura longicatena are tra… Show more

“…nov. is proposed. The type strain is 3H-GS17 T (=DSM 100595 T =CGMCC 4.7282 T ).The genus Actinocorallia was first proposed by Iinuma et al (1994) as a member of the family Thermomonosporaceae and its description was emended by Zhang et al (2001). Members of the genus form spore chains on the aerial mycelium.…”

“…nov. [type strain 3-46-b(3) T 5JCM 13933 T 5MTCC8057 T ] and Actinomadura chokoriensis sp. nov. [type strain 3-45-a(11) T 5JCM 13932 T 5MTCC8056 T ].The application of chemosystematic, numerical phenetic and molecular systematic methods has clarified the taxonomy of the genus Actinomadura and related taxa (Poscher et al, 1985;Kroppenstedt et al, 1990;Ochi et al, 1991;Trujillo & Goodfellow, 1997Quintana et al, 2003a;Lee & Jeong, 2006;Le Roes & Meyers, 2007 (Henssen, 1957;Zhang et al, 2001). Members of these genera form distinct phyletic lines in trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences (Zhang et al, 1998(Zhang et al, , 2001) and can be distinguished from one another by using a combination of biochemical, chemical, morphological and physiological features (Zhang et al, 1998(Zhang et al, , 2001Trujillo & Goodfellow, 2003).…”

“…The genus Actinomadura belongs to the family Thermomonosporaceae, which also includes the genera Actinocorallia, Spirillospora and Thermomonospora (Zhang et al, 2001). Members of the genus Actinomadura are aerobic, Gram-positive, non-acid-fast, non-motile actinomycetes that typically form non-fragmenting, extensively branched substrate mycelium and aerial hyphae that differentiate into short to long, straight, hooked or spiral spore chains with either folded, irregular, smooth, spiny or warty spores.…”
