Citrus Leafminer Management: Jasmonic Acid versus Efficient Pesticides

Abstract: The citrus leafminer (Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton) is a significant pest for Citrus spp. worldwide. Hence, the effectiveness of jasmonic acid (JA) was compared to three pesticides, abamectin, thiamethoxam, and acetamiprid, against P. citrella infesting mandarin (Citrus reticulata L.) and lime (C. aurantifolia L.) seedlings. Mortality rate was significantly different due to JA and other pesticides treatments. Moreover, on the 3rd day after treatment, JA demonstrated the highest reduction percentage of leafm… Show more

“…One of the main reasons why JA compounds can increase the phenolic content of plant cell is that JA and MeJA can increase the expression of PAL activity through the octadecane pathway (Singh et al 2021). In our results, PAL activity was signi cantly positively correlated with phenol and tannin content and was consistent with many results (Abdul et al 2014;Vivek et al 2019;Bali et al 2019;Elazab et al 2020). Furthermore, we did not nd a signi cant difference in the effects between MeJA and JA on PAL activity, regardless of whether they were faced with aphid feeding.…”

“…As long as aphid feeding conditions was involved, the contents of total chlorophyll, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and carotenoids decreased signi cantly. Contrary to expectations, we did not nd that JA compounds could signi cantly increase the content of photosynthetic pigments under aphid stress, and it is inconsistent with most ndings (Ali et al 2020;Awan et al 2020;Elazab et al 2020). However, this result is not incomprehensible, as aphid feeding can lead to photosynthesis problems, down-regulate some photosynthesis genes, and also induce leaf chlorosis, which is manifested by reduced chlorophyll content (Liang et al 2018;Liu et al 2020).…”

“…JA and SA play important roles in photosynthesis, growth and development, seed germination, and flowering. In addition, they also play an important role in plant stress resistance (Elazab et al 2020;Wasternack 2015;Khan et al 2003). Our results found an interesting circumstance, compared with AC, JA content increased significantly in all treatments of rice seedling leaves, while SA content did not change significantly in all treatments.…”
