Citri reticulatae Pericarpium attenuates Ang II-induced pathological cardiac hypertrophy via upregulating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors gamma

Abstract: Background: Pathological cardiac hypertrophy is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, including heart failure. However, limited pharmacological therapies are available for reversing the maladaptive process and restoring cardiac function. Citri reticulatae Pericarpium (CRP) has been used in traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions for clinical treatment. Previous studies have shown that CRP and its ingredients have beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system. However, whether CRP has a protecti… Show more

“…Neonatal Sprague-Dawley rats were obtained from the Experimental Animal Center of Nanjing Medical University with ethical approval. Neonatal rat ventricular monocytes (NRVMs) were isolated from the left ventricles by digestion with trypsin and collagenase type II, followed by Percoll centrifugation as previously described [ 23 ]. NRVMs were plated onto gelatine-coated culture dishes in high-glucose Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium (DMEM, Gibco, Pasadena, CA, USA) with 10% horse serum (HS, Gibco, Carlsbad, CA, USA) and 5% foetal bovine serum (FBS, Gibco, Carlsbad, CA, USA) for 24 h.…”

“…In the progression of cardiac hypertrophy and vascular remodeling, fibrosis is vital. 36,37 In this study, we showed that the Hippo signaling pathway participates in AF. Upon consideration of PPI networks, we found that MYC, ID1, and MIF were involved in the pathways mentioned above, thereby suggesting their roles in AF pathogenesis.…”

“…As a traditional Chinese medicine, the role and mechanism of CRP and its various active ingredients in myocardial hypertrophy have been reported more frequently. It was found that CRP could inhibit Ang II-induced myocardial hypertrophy in mice through upregulation of PPARG [ 21 ]. Important active constituents of CRP, such as nobiletin, hesperidin, and naringenin, were also able to inhibit the development of myocardial hypertrophy.…”
