Circularly Polarized Luminescence from Achiral Single Crystals of Hybrid Manganese Halides

Abstract: crown-6)] + (KC) cations are used for cocrystallization with manganese halides, producing isostructural single crystals of organic− inorganic hybrid complexes, [K(dibenzo-18-crown-6)] 2 MnX 4 (abbreviated (KC) 2 MnX 4 ) (X = Cl, Br), which feature one-dimensional morphology and green phosphorescence with considerable photoluminescence quantum yields accompanied by excellent optical waveguide behavior with a low loss coefficient. More interestingly, (KC) 2 MnX 4 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group Cc bel… Show more

“…Significant g lum enhancement thus requires moving from charge transfer to ED-forbidden/MD-allowed metal-centered transitions operating in 3d open-shell metal ions, but only few studies were reported on first-row transition metals, mainly on Cr III and once on Mn II showing CPL in the solid state (Zhao et al, 2019 ). Although the use of labile Mn II is compatible with chiral induction produced by enantiopure ligands, the ideal metal complexes should be inert enough to tolerate separation techniques, such as chromatogaphy, a criterion only fulfilled with Co III , Fe III , or Cr III .…”

“…[17][18][19] Their success can be attributed to strong absorption of ionizing radiation due to presence of heavy atoms (Pb, I, and Br), high charge carrier mobilities, long exciton diffusion, long charge carrier lifetime, and excellent optical properties. [20][21][22][23][24] Single crystal [19,[25][26][27][28][29][30][31] and thick film [32][33][34][35][36] perovskite X-ray detectors have been the focal point of current research, often incorporated in a lateral photoconductor radiation detector architecture. This kind of devices show an outstanding sensitivity as well as fast, stable, and reproducible response.…”

“…3f and g), which again indicates that achiral DSM shows CPL activity when encapsulated into the chiral pores of TbBTC. 47 In order to obtain information about the conguration of the DSM molecule inside the chiral pore of Tb-BTC, we tried to grow single crystals of DSM@TbBTC. Luckily; we obtained a single crystal of the DSM@P-(+)-TbBTC structure with encapsulation of DSM.…”
