Circuit Modelling of Broadband Antenna Using Vector Fitting and Foster Form Approaches for IoT Applications

Abstract: Computation of the broadband antenna impedance behavior requires the wideband lumped equivalent circuit. This work aims to provide a comprehensive study of broadband antenna equivalent circuit models over broad frequency ranges for Internet of Things (IoT) applications using multiple approaches. The first approach is a Foster approximation, which is based on the antenna-simulated scattering parameters and impedance data. The second concerns a vector-fitting fitting approximation, which is based on the antenna-… Show more

“…However, methods for executing this approximation appear to be primarily empirical in nature, and thus limited in the accuracy and sophistication of the resulting resonator networks. In other fields, however, optimization techniques along with utilization of a Foster Canonical Network (FCN) (more on this below) have been leveraged to represent generalized impedance responses in terms of RLC resonators [10][11][12][13][14][15]. Here, we will do the same, developing a partial-derivativebased procedural search algorithm that may be used to map broadband accelerator component data to quasi-equivalent resonator networks.…”

“…Zm12 and Zm23 are mutual coupling impedances between the outer ring-middle ring and middle ring-inner disk, respectively. The values of these impedances can be computed using the equations available in [10,[13][14][15][16][17][18]. The antenna input impedance Zin is also modelled using the Foster representation where each radiating structure is modelled as a parallel RLC circuit [13].…”

“…Therefore, our AMC is a good alternative to the metal ground due to its wideband. The proposed AMC unit can be equivalent to an LC parallel resonant circuit using the equivalent circuit analysis method (ECM) [23,24], as illustrated in Figure 4. Periodical patches provide the grid inductance L p .…”
