CircMAN1A2 is upregulated by Helicobacter pylori and promotes development of gastric cancer

Abstract: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is one of the main causes of gastric cancer. It has been reported that circRNAs play a vital role in the development of multiple types of cancer. However, the role of H. pylori-induced circRNAs in the development of gastric cancer has not been studied. In this study, we found that H. pylori could induce the upregulation of circMAN1A2 in AGS and BGC823 cells independent of CagA. The downregulation of circMAN1A2 could inhibit the proliferation, migration and invasion of gastric ca… Show more

“…Using high-throughput RNA-seq, Guo et al (2022a) analyzed circRNA expression profiles in PBS-treated and Helicobacter pylori-infected AGS cells. As compared to the control, among 18,308 different circRNA candidates, the experiment yielded 101 significantly differentially expressed circRNAs, including 84 upregulated and 17 downregulated circRNAs.…”

“…Additionally, H. pylori can upregulate circMAN1A2 expression in GC cells, and circMAN1A2 may promote proliferation, migration and invasion of H. pylori-induced GC by sponging miR-1236-3p to increase MTA2 expression (99).…”

“…Earlier studies also confirmed that circFNDC3B could mediate GC cell migration and invasion by promoting epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) ( 98 ). Additionally, H. pylori can upregulate circMAN1A2 expression in GC cells, and circMAN1A2 may promote proliferation, migration and invasion of H. pylori -induced GC by sponging miR-1236-3p to increase MTA2 expression ( 99 ).…”

“…found that the downregulated expression of circEIF4G3 was observed in GC and was associated with poor clinical outcomes ( 25 ). Another study showed that circMAN1A2 could regulate MTA2 through sponging miR-1236-3p, promoting the progression of H. pylori-induced GC ( 26 ). These above studies give us a hint that the value of circRNAs in GC remains to be further clarified.…”
