CIM-OSA Part 2: information view

Abstract: Basic concepts and the function view of an opensystems architecture for modelling CIM systems, called CIM -OSA, have been presented in Part I of this paper. In this second part, the information view of CfM -OSA is discussedfor modelling information systems of CIM systems at three distinct levels (requirements definition, design specification and implementation description). To serve this purpose, the CIM -OSA information modelling paradigm makes use of an object-entity relationship attribute (OREA) approach wh… Show more

“…In the behavioural perspective the life-histories of entities in the data perspective are defined (Brodie and Silva, 1982). The conceptual framework developed by the ESPRIT project called CIM-OSA consists of a number of organisational views which together give a complete description of the organisation (Beeckman, 1989;Jorysz and Vernadat, 1990a;Jorysz and Vernadat, 1990b;Klittich, 1990). Certain modelling techniques are suggested in each view but none of them have been standardised giving the modeller complete freedom to select different techniques if needed.…”

“…There is no standard for entity relationship models yet, although several proposal are likely candidates (e.g., Spencer et al (1990), Jorysz and Vernadat (1990)). His entity relationship model has been expanded in many ways in the years since.…”

“…The redesign process has been formally expressed using the CIMOSA methodology and architecture. CIMOSA defines four different views which focus on diverse aspects of the model (Jorysz and Vernadat, 1990a;1990b): 1 function; 2 information; 3 resource; and 4 organisation.…”
