This smoke exposure is well tolerated by the rabbits and achieves serum cotinine and carboxyhemoglobin levels comparable to those of chronic human smokers by the second week of cigarette smoke exposure [3]. Another group of rabbits (n ϭ 5) was placed in and out of the chamber for 8 weeks similar to the smoke group; however, no smoke was added through the air intake of the chamber and they served as the control group.…”
