Abstract: Nitrogen and phosphorus annual cycle in the Paso Bonito reservoir (Cienfuegos, Cuba)The Paso Bonito reservoir is a source of supply for the city of Cienfuegos and part of the city of Santa Clara. “…A nivel ecológico, la presencia de cianobacterias en ecosistemas acuáticos no representa un peligro per se; sin embargo, bajo condiciones ambientales favorables de disponibilidad de luz solar, temperatura, pH (Chorus & Welker, 2021) y enriquecimiento del agua con nutrientes provenientes de actividades antrópicas, estos organismos pueden alcanzar altas densidades celulares aumentando el grado de eutrofia del sistema (Fraile et al, 1995;González et al, 2003;Vásquez et al, 2006). Por otro lado, algunas especies de cianobacterias tienen la capacidad de producir toxinas; a nivel mundial diversos autores han documentados incidentes de intoxicación relacionados a floraciones de cianobacterias lo que consecuentemente puede llegar a representar un problema de salud pública (Betancourt et al, 2009;Cunha et al, 2013;Lamparelli, 2004;Santiago & Vignatti, 2009;Vasconcelos, 2006).
