Chrysin Sensitizes Human Lung Cancer Cells to Tumour Necrosis Factor Related Apoptosis-Inducing Ligand (TRAIL) Mediated Apoptosis

Abstract: Background: Lung cancer is the primary cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Thus, the requisite for more coherent methods to lung cancer therapy is needed. Purpose: Chrysin (5, 7-dihydroxyflavone) is a naturally occurring flavonoid having a wide range of pharmacological properties and is commonly found in fruits, vegetables, honey and propolis. In our study, we have hypothesized that chrysin would have anticancer activity on L132 lung cancer cell line. Methods: The cytotoxic effects were assessed by MTT and NRU as… Show more

“…This reduction in cell viability induced by IL-2, TRAIL and MIX has also been demonstrated in MB49 tumor cells [20]. In the neutral red dye assay, a study showed that TRAIL decreased cell viability in lung cancer model (L-132) [49].…”

“…The synergistic effect of TRAIL when combined with an anticancer agent is a promising strategy to overcome the resistance of cancerous cells toward TRAIL. For instance, the combinatorial treatment of chrysin and TRAIL considerably augments apoptosis in lung cancer cells (Mehdi et al, 2019).…”

“…This was allocated to enhanced expression of caspase‐3, 8, 9, Bax and alleviated expression of Bcl‐2 (Figure 5). Speaking concisely, Chrysin escalates TRAIL induced apoptosis by modulating caspases and cell survival protein Bcl‐2 (Mehdi et al, 2019). Chrysin in combination with cyclophosphamide provided chemoprotection and mitigated toxic effects (Lakshmi et al, 2019).…”
