Chronomics*: circadian and circaseptan timing of radiotherapy, drugs, calories, perhaps nutriceuticals and beyond

Abstract: We suggest a putative benefit from timing nutriceuticals (substances that are both nutrients and pharmaceuticals) such as antioxidants for preventive or curative health care, based on the proven merits of timing nutrients, drugs, and other treatments, as documented, i.a., in India. The necessity of timing melatonin, a major antioxidant, is noted. A protocol to extend the scope of chronoradiotherapy awaits testing. Imaging in time by mapping rhythms and broader time structures, chronomes, for earliest diagnoses… Show more

“…Various schemes have been proposed for dividing the infradian rhythms further into subgroups, such as periods of about 2 days, half a week (circasemiseptan), 1 week (circaseptan), 10 days, 14 days (circasemilunar), 1 month (circatrigintan), 1 year (circannual), and even longer (Reinberg & Smolensky, 1983;Spruyt et al, 1987;Yamashita et al, 1999;Chumakov et al, 2000;Buda et al, 2003;Halberg et al, 2003;Vignoles et al, 2006).…”

“…The term chronomics was coined to refer to timing and rhythm influences on cancer biology [2,3,4]. Another different and probably unrelated feature is represented by seasonality in skin cancer detection that has previously been suggested in Westernized populations [5,6,7,8,9,10,11].…”

“…Such metabolites have been implicated in the damage brought about by ionizing radia ons, as well as in the effects of several cytosta c compounds [14]. Chronobiological studies provide the capability of therapeu c interven on at a me when this interven on is useful and best tolerated and avoidance when it is not [15,16]. Although much is known about the chemistry of lipid peroxida on and cellular defense mechanisms, chronobiological studies are needed to quan fy the various cellular probables involved in these processes for be er management, prognosis and treatment.…”
