Chronoamperometry Using Integrated Potentiostat Consisting of Poly-Si Thin-Film Transistors

Abstract: We have conducted chronoamperometry using an integrated potentiostat consisting of poly-Si thin-film transistors. An electrochemical measurement of enzymatic redox reaction using glucose oxidase and ferrocene mediator is attempted as a practical example. It is found that the chronoamperogram depends on the glucose concentration, and a glucose concentration as low as 2 mM can be detected by comparing the chronoamperogram without glucose. The glucose sensitivity of the chronoamperometry is similar to that of the… Show more

“…The whole structure can be used as an implantable flexible microneedle because of its good flexibility property. Generally, this proposed device shows better overall property than other similar reports [19][20][21][22][23][24]. The novel design including a three-electrode structure on a thin hollow tube will be very useful for some applications in the micro-total analysis systems (μTAS) in the future.…”

“…We can obtain an estimated peak current density according to the above measured result, about 0.8 mA/dm 2 , which is sufficient for subsequent circuit signal processing in the glucose sensor application. In addition, our fabricated flexible microneedle device can be more easily implanted into the objects compared to other reported ones [23][24][25][26].…”

“…Previous potentiostat designs have focused on portability [6-8], miniaturization [9-11], and energy efficiency [12-14]. While these are important features, they are not critical for metabolic studies conducted in research laboratories.…”

“…The traditional¯ngerstick test, one of the most common method is invasive, painful and inconvenient and often fails to detect rapidly°uctuating glucose levels. 1 More importantly, it cannot be used to identify hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia during sleep and thus for continuous monitoring of glucose level. Recently, microneedles based on micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology have been proposed as a painless interventional component for continuous glucose monitoring system and related medical applications.…”
