Chromium picolinate inhibits cholesterol-induced stimulation of platelet aggregation in hypercholesterolemic rats

Abstract: Chromium supplementation to hypercholesterolemic rats improves the lipid profile and returns platelet hyperaggregability to control levels. This normalization is mostly due to a reduction in plasma cholesterol level.

“…The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of CrPic has been studied in some experiments and explainable in many mechanisms, one of them is induced the decreasing of nitrite serum production, which inhibits nitrite reaction with superoxide and reduces peroxynitrite production (Cefalu et al, 2010;Seif, 2015). Similarly to CrYst, yeast contained in the feed was assumed to affect antioxidant activity.…”

“…However, it did not affect carbohydrate metabolism parameters such as FBG, serum insulin concentrations, IR-index and related enzymes (G6PD and GCK level), and other biochemical indices (ALT, AST, ALP, TP, BUN, Crea) in rodents of both gender. Seif [ 72 ] noted that Cr supplementation of hypercholesterolemic rats at a dose of 200 µg/day CrPic for 10 weeks improved their lipid profile and reduced excessive platelet aggregation, mainly by lowering the cholesterol concentration.…”
