Choroidal thickness following extrafoveal photodynamic treatment with verteporfin in patients with central serous chorioretinopathy

Abstract: ABSTRACT.Purpose: To evaluate the effect of verteporfin photodynamic treatment (PDT) on choroidal thickness in patients with central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). Methods: Choroidal thickness was measured with enhanced depth imaging-optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT) before and after verteporfin PDT (fulldose verteporfin, half-light dose) in 16 eyes in 16 patients with serous detachment of the fovea secondary to extrafoveal angiographic fluorescein leakage. Treatment was confined to the area of leakage, … Show more

“…They suggested 15-deoxy-Δ12,14-prostaglandin J2 (15d-PGJ2) as a key mediator that might cause choroidal vaso-obliteration, thereby affecting CT through the induction of oxidant stress in ROP [3]. In addition, the application of laser treatment to the eyes could affect choroidal circulation [29]. In agreement with this finding, we observed a positive correlation of central CT and BCVA in children with a history of ROP.…”

“…Pryds and Larsen 29 reported that the reduction of choroidal thickness occurred not only inside the PDTapplied area but also outside the PDT-applied area after a half-light dose PDT for chronic CSC. In this study, choroidal thickness and the cross-sectional area of the large choroidal vein significantly decreased both inside and outside the PDT-applied area after 1/2 PDT.…”

“…Previous studies have shown that the choroidal thickness rapidly decreased after successful PDT and that it remained decreased for years [8] [26] [27] [28]. The previous study reported that choroidal thickness decreased by 4.1 μm for every year increase in age [29].…”
