“…Accordingly with our previous works [3,6,7], the screen-printed electrodes for P450 investigations were produced on flexible polyvinylchloride sheets from SKK (Denzlingen, Germany) using a DEK 249 screen printer (DEK Ltd., Weymouth, England) by using polyester screens from Steinmann GmbH (Stuttgart, Germany). Screen printing inks (Electrodag PF-410, Electrodag 6037 SS) were obtained from Acheson (Scheemda, Netherlands).…”

“…Similarly, different oxidases may be used to detect lactate, glutamate, cholesterol and other metabolic molecules which may be as relevant as diseases biomarkers [2]. The cholesterol may be also detected by using cytochromes P450 [3]. This is a protein family with more then 3000 different isoforms which may catalyze many different endogenous and exogenous compounds highly relevant for the human metabolism.…”

“…It has been shown in 2005 that P450 11A1 activity is highly enhanced when the cytochrome is immobilized onto screen-printed electrodes modified by gold nanoparticles [5]. 100 µM of cholesterol produced a current signal of a few µA when using riboflavin as molecular mediator between P450 11A1 and rhodium-graphite screenprinted electrodes with an area of 20 mm 2 [6]. On the other hand, a 10 µM concentration produced a current signal of more than 1 µA when using screen-printed electrodes of the same area but modified by gold nanoparticles [5].…”

“…Numerous methods based on enzyme immobilization for human cholesterol assays have been developed, including colorimetric, spectrometric and electrochemical methods (Crumbliss et al, 1993;Shumyantseva et al, 2004). The use of enzymes in the fabrication of sensors has advantages due to their rapid, selective, and sensitive nature.…”
