1. Einleitung. -Ubichinone wurden erstmals Mitte der fiinfziger Jahre von Morton et al. im Verdauungstrakt von Pferden und Schweinen [l] sowie in der Pferdeleber [2] festgestellt. Isoliert in reiner, zum Teil kristalliner Form wurden solche Verbindungen mit verschiedenen Kettenlangen aus Ochsenherz [3](Ubichinon-10') (11; n = 8; s. Schema 2)), aus Rattenleber [5] (Ubichinon-10') (11; n = S), -9') (11; n = 7), -8') (11; n = 6), -7') (11; n = 5) und -6') (11; n = 4)) sowie aus Hefe [6] (Ubichinon-9') (11; n = 7), -72) (11; n = 5) und -6') (11; n = 4)). Meistens erfolgte im Zusammenhang mit der Strukturaufklarung auch die Synthese [7] dieser neuen Vertreter naturlich vorkommender Chinone.Die im tierischen Gewebe und in pflanzlichen Zellen weit verbreiteten Chinone (Vitamin K,, K,-Vitamine, Plastochinone und Ubichinone) spielen eine wichtige Rolle im Elektronentransport und bei der Photosynthese [8], zudem besitzen diese Verbindungen verschiedene pharmakologische Eigenschaften. So wird z.B. Ubichinon-10') (1 1; n = 8; Coenzym Q,,) in der Klinik als Herz-und Kreislaufmittel verwendet [9]. Die ersten Synthesen von Ubichinonen 11 [6a] [7] [lo] wurden analog den fruhen Herstellungsverfahren von Vitamin K, und K, [I 11 ausgefuhrt: Alkylierung von 5-Methyl-2,3-dimethoxy-1 ,4-benzohydrochinon (Hydrochinon von 8 s. Schema I ) mit der entsprechenden Seitenkettenkomponente, z. B. 9 (n = 2, 3, .. .; X = OH; s. Schema 2) unter Lewis-Saurekatalyse. Wegen den auftretenden Nebenreaktionen (z. B. unerwunschte Alkylierung von 8 an C(5) und (E/Z)-Isomerisierung der Doppelbindungen unter den sauren Bedingungen [12]) wurden dabei nur massige Ausbeuten an Ubichinonen 11 erhalten.
