Chitosan-graft-benzo-15-crown-5-ether/PVA Blend Membrane with Sponge-Like Pores for Lithium Isotope Adsorptive Separation

Abstract: Crown ether exhibits a high separation coefficient for lithium isotope separation owing to its precise size selectivity to cations. A crown ether-based solid–liquid extraction method for the lithium isotope separation with a high extraction efficiency is regarded as a valid alternative to the classic liquid–liquid method. A chitosan- graft -benzo-15-crown-5-ether (CTS- g -B15C5)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) porous blend membrane for lithium isotope adsorptive separation… Show more

“…The polysulfone adsorbents modified with AB15C5 groups was prepared to give a maximum single-stage separation factor of 1.031 ± 0.002 [13]. Zeng et al incorporated chitosan together with B15C5 into polyvinyl alcohol porous blend membrane, which showed a maximum single-stage separation factor of 1.046 [14].…”

“…Based on the similar concept that the lighter isotope in the solution tends to migrate toward the hotter zone with a faster rate when a thermal gradient is present, thermal diffusion was utilized to facilitate the Li isotope separation. Thermal diffusion of lithium isotopes in pure substances has been studied for solid [61] Copyright 2018, American Chemical Society.…”

“…In our previous works, benzo‐15‐crown‐5 ether (B15 C5) and monoazabenzo‐15‐crown‐5 ether (BN15 C5) were grafted onto polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), chitosan (CTS) and polysulfone (PSf) polymers. These polymers covalently binding with crown ether were further fabricated into porous membranes with or without non‐woven fabrics substrate by non‐solvent induced phase separation method.…”
