Chiral selectors in CE: Recent developments and applications

Abstract: This review article provides an overview of the recent advances in enantioanalysis by use of electrophoretic techniques. Due to the big number of publications in the subject mentioned above, this article is focused on chiral method developments and applications published from 2008 until 2011, and it demonstrates chiral selectors used in CE. Numerous chiral selectors have been used over the years, and these include the cyclic and the linear oligo- and polysaccharides, the branched polysaccharides, the polymeric… Show more

“…In a first step of the screening, we evaluate the performances of nine available different anionic cyclodextrins at one median concentration of 3% (w/v) HS-␣-CD, HS-␤-CD, HS-␥-CD, or 15 mM of ␣-SCD, ␤-SCD, ␥-SCD, CM-␤-CD, CM-␥-CD and SBE-␤-CD. Among them, sulfobutylether CD derivatives were reported as the most effective for very different chemical structures of analytes and thus the most described anionic CD in recent papers [25,26] and review [27] alone, or in mixtures of CDs [28]. Cathodic injections were performed using long-end procedure at 15 kV and 25 • C. Unfortunately, among the nine anionic cyclodextrins, seven did not allow any separation.…”

“…Several different chiral selectors have been used, including CDs, macrocyclic antibiotics, carbohydrates and chiral crown ethers [22]. Among these agents, cyclodextrins are by far the most frequently used for their good solubility in aqueous buffer, low toxicity and low UV absorption.…”

“…Thus, it is critical to choose a suitable chiral selector (CS) to create a chiral environment. Many compounds with chiral center can be used as chiral selectors (CSs), such as cyclodextrins (CDs) [17][18][19], crown ether [20], copper-amino acid complexes [21], antibiotics [22][23][24], chiral micelles [25], and proteins [26,27]. Among these chiral selectors, natural CDs and their derivatives have been used extensively in chiral separations.…”
