Chinese Language in the Linguistic Landscape of Moscow

Abstract

Despite the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, which had a negative impact on the development of world tourism, megacities of the world, including Moscow, continue to increase the pace of creating a comfortable environment for foreign guests, part of which is the language of international communication. The function of such a language is traditionally performed by English, which was especially noticeable during the FIFA World Cup in 2018, the final part of which was held in Russian cities, including Moscow. At the same time, Chinese has become the second language of international communication that has become widespread in the language landscape of the Russian capital, provided by stable Russian-Chinese interstate relations that ensure ties between the two countries in the business and educational spheres. The article is devoted to the analysis of the areas of use of Chinese in the language landscape of Moscow, which includes the business sector, transport infrastructure, tourism, as well as the sphere of culture and religion.
