Chinese Herbal Medicine and Its Regulatory Effects on Tumor Related T Cells

Abstract: Traditional Chinese medicine is an accepted and integral part of clinical cancer management alongside Western medicine in China. However, historically TCM physicians were unaware of the chemical constituents of their formulations, and the specific biological targets in the body. Through HPLC, flow cytometry, and other processes, researchers now have a much clearer picture of how herbal medicine works in conjunction with the immune system in cancer therapy. Among them, the regulation of tumor-related T cells pl… Show more

“…Then the culture medium was discarded. After that, the cells were cultured with the culture medium containing 0, 0.4, 0.8 and 1.2 mg/mL (11) of S. lyratum polysaccharide, which was marked as the control group, S. lyratum polysaccharide L group, S. lyratum polysaccharide M group, S. lyratum polysaccharide H group. After 24 h of incubation, 10μL CCK-8 was added and incubated for 2 h, and the optical density (OD) was measured by a microplate reader (wavelength 450 nm).…”

“…On the other hand, deficient immune response results in chronic and persistent bacterial infections (Smith et al, 2009). Immunomodulation is an important function of TCM, which activates or suppresses the immune responses of a variety of immune cells, including macrophages (Jian et al, 2019), dendritic cells (Chen et al, 2006), T cells (Guo et al, 2015), B cells (Kawakita et al, 1987a) and NK cells (Hoffman et al, 2020). The immunomodulatory effects of TCM on host immunity in the context of P. aeruginosa infections have been evaluated in past decade (Table 5) (Kong et al, 2015;Hou et al, 2016;.…”

“…In the past decades, Chinese medicine therapy has shown remarkable potential as an alternative for cervical cancer treatment or as auxiliary reagents that support cancer treatment owing to their high efficiency and low toxicity [ 4 ]. An increasing number of natural antineoplastic agents were employed in the preclinical and clinical assessments.…”
