“…After childhood, the traumas triggering intention for suicide attempt expanded: emotional trauma becomes the leading risk of adolescent SB; and emotional, physical and traumatic family loss all constitute major risk factors for young‐adult SB 24 . Although our research did not explore the types of traumas related to the SB of LLD, given the permanent effect of unfavorable experiences in childhood, 25 we highlight the urgent need to address childhood trauma. In fact, it has previously been observed that dysfunction of the hypothalamic‐pituitary‐adrenal (HPA) axis, stimulating the adrenal cortex to secrete glucocorticoids in times of stress, occurs in older adults with a history of childhood abuse 26 .…”

“…A recent study found that the severity of childhood trauma experience contributes to a lack of response to antidepressant treatment and suggested glucocorticoid resistance as a target for the development of personalized treatment for a subgroup of depressed patients with a history of childhood trauma (33). Although our study did not investigate the types of trauma associated with SB among depressed patients, since negative experiences during childhood have everlasting influences (34), we highlight childhood trauma as an emergency.…”

“…It was reported that childhood traumas are related to the thought and attempt of suicide even when there is no diagnosed psychiatric disorder (Boroujerdi et al, 2019; Clements‐Nolle et al, 2018; Fjeldsted et al, 2020; Zatti et al, 2017). In accordance with the literature, patients with attempted suicide history in the present study experienced greater levels of emotional and physical negligence, and emotional, physical, and sexual abuse compared to the healthy controls.…”

“…Experiencing emotional neglect or being the child in a shattered family child, on the other hand, was not associated with higher risk (Boroujerdi et al, 2019). Another study found that physical abuse, emotional abuse, and emotional neglect were associated with especially suicide intention and attempt (Fjeldsted et al, 2020). In the present study, scores of physical neglect, emotional neglect, physical abuse, and sexual abuse were much higher in the subgroup of patients with another suicide attempt in the past.…”
