Chemotherapy for patients with acute myeloid leukemia in first remission

Abstract: Although the majority of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) achieve a complete remission with induction chemotherapy, most will ultimately relapse. Therefore, the optimal postremission therapy for AML remains to be defined, and further improvements in treatment strategies are required. Clinical trials have demonstrated that early intensive consolidation therapy with high-dose cytarabine can produce prolonged responses in up to 40% of patients in remission after standard induction therapy. Equally, howe… Show more

“…Although remarkable remissions can be initially attained through chemotherapy in most AML patients, complete disease elimination remains rare. Promising approaches have been proposed, such as chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy targeting CD33 combined with allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation [8, 9]. However, 75% of patients are still at risk of disease relapse and succumb to the disease within 5 years from diagnosis [10].…”

“…The majority of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) treated with intensive induction chemotherapy obtain a complete remission (CR) . However, despite consolidation chemotherapy and advances in stem cell transplantation (SCT), most of these patients eventually relapse and ultimately die from their disease .…”

“…Bradstock 2006), have shown promise, 75% of patients still face the risk of relapse and death within ve years of diagnosis. Therefore, the identi cation of potential biomarkers is crucial for the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of pediatric AML patients. The Wnt signaling pathway holds signi cant importance in embryonic and organ development, serving as a crucial regulator of various cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, polarization, migration, and apoptosis(Sturgeon et al 2014;Logan and Nusse 2004;Niehrs 2012).…”
