Chemopreventive Property of Sencha Tea Extracts towards Sensitive and Multidrug-Resistant Leukemia and Multiple Myeloma Cells

Abstract: The popular beverage green tea possesses chemopreventive activity against various types of tumors. However, the effects of its chemopreventive effect on hematological malignancies have not been defined. In the present study, we evaluated antitumor efficacies of a specific green tea, sencha tea, on sensitive and multidrug-resistant leukemia and a panel of nine multiple myelomas (MM) cell lines. We found that sencha extracts induced cytotoxicity in leukemic cells and MM cells to different extents, yet it… Show more

“…TPs have been shown to have strong anti-tumor effects in many studies (Lu et al, 2020;Rady et al, 2018). In general, the anti-tumor mechanisms of TPs can be summarized as: (Hu et al, 2014;Min & Kwon, 2014;Rashidi et al, 2017;Tang et al, 2017;Wang, Pan et al, 2018;Wang, Xiong, et al, 2019).…”

“…Studies have been shown that EGCG inhibits STAT and Pglycoprotein signaling pathways to suppress cell proliferation and drug resistance in breast cancer cell (Lu et al, 2020;Nakano et al, 2018;Tang et al, 2017). GTPs can regulate the transition between pre-DNA synthesis/DNA synthesis (G1/S) and late DNA synthesis/division (G2/M), inducing cell cycle arrest and significantly inhibiting the growth of MCF-7 cells (Wang, Pan, et al, 2018;Wang, Cui, et al, 2020).…”

“…Numerous studies reported that regular intake of tea components is associated with an improved antioxidant status in vivo conditions. Systematic delivery of substances with high antioxidant potential may contribute to the lowering risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, atherosclerosis, certain types of cancer, increasing insulin sensitivity properties, and protection against inflammation, bacteria or neurodegenerative diseases [22,[28][29][30][31][32][33].…”
