Molecular mechanisms and applications of tea polyphenols: A narrative review

Abstract: Tea not only has a beloved taste, but also has rich biological activity, so it has become one of the best-selling beverages in the world. In the existing studies on tea, it is found that TPs account for highest proportion, which is the main bioactive ingredient. Generally, green tea polyphenols (GTP S ) are the main research materials, which are high in catechins. GTP S have significant health benefits (Xing et al., 2019) and are considered to be safe by the US Food and Drug Administration (Chang et al., 2019)… Show more

“…Polyphenols belong to a broad group of chemical substances having one or more aromatic rings with two or more hydroxyl groups They are natural compounds found in plants and can be extracted from sources such as vegetables, grains, chocolates, fruits, tea, legumes, and seeds, among other sources [ [108] , [109] , [110] ]. Polyphenolic membrane materials are widely used because of their good universality and strong interaction to various substrates, and easy film formation in the aqueous phase [ [111] , [112] , [113] , [114] , [115] , [116] ].…”

“…From the above results about chemical analysis and biological activities, including the antioxidant and inhibition effects on carbohydrate hydrolases, it can be seen the chemical compositions and biological activities of QZT samples were both varied during the processing. Polyphenols are usually considered the main bioactive compounds of tea [29].…”

“…Natural polyphenols often have a series of good biological functions such as antioxidant, [1][2][3] anti-radiation, [4][5][6] antiinflammatory, [7][8][9] antibacterial, [10][11][12] and anti-tumor, [13][14][15] and are used for the treatment of various diseases, including obesity, 16 diabetes, 17,18 tumor and cardiovascular. 19,20 Several studies suggest that dietary polyphenols can be a strategy for obesity management, helping to recover or preserve gut health through anti-inflammatory and antioxidant actions.…”
