Abstract: Natural products containing non-tetramic gamma-hydroxy-gamma-lactams and gamma-alkylidene-gamma-lactams are usually but not exclusively derived from the mixed polyketide-non-ribosomal peptide biosynthetic pathway. Often they are fungal metabolites, although some plant- and marine-derived exceptions exist.
