Abstract: The chlorination of the title compound (I) at ‐2O ° C in the presence of FeCl3 and tert.‐butylpyrocatechol yields the expected product, the penta‐ chlorobutane (II) and the unexpected products, the tetrachloro‐1‐butene (III) and the tetrachloro‐2‐butene (IV).
