Abstract

A Practical and Efficient Synthesis of 2,5-Disubstituted-3,5-dihydro-imidazol--4-ones from Oxazolones. -A practical and efficient method for the synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted-3,5-dihydro-imidazol-4-ones (II) is developed. Ammonium carbamate is found to be an excellent source of ammonia at the initiatory oxazolone ring-opening step. The subsequent imidazolone cyclization can be achieved in the presence of K 2 CO 3 or DBU.
