“…With few exceptions [15] it is generally true of ion-molecule exchange reactions that their cross section does not extend towards very high impact energy. For several endothermic luminescent reactions studied by us (N++H2, [16,17]; C++H2, [18]; N+ +NO, [19]; B++H2, [20]; A1 + +H 2 and P++H2, [,21]) we have found a rather sharp cross section maximum above threshold, followed by a fast fall-off. Also, Ar § +H 2 ~ArH + +H is a prototype stripping reaction [22,24] (with some modifications, [-25]), and Henglein has shown [26] that for this type of reaction mechanism an upper limit exists for the impact energy.…”
